Forage and Dye

INTRODUCTION TO NATURAL DYEING

In this workshop you will learn how you can forage and use seasonal and regionally relevant plants to create lasting and effective colours. Louise will cover her favourite local plants and what colours to expect. You will collect and forage along the beautiful Thames Path in Walton Upon Thames and then return to the Art Centre to make magic.
You will come away with an understanding of natural dying with fresh, raw dye and a hands on experience of selecting plants, preparing wool, dye baths, and mordants. All materials will be provided and you will leave with 2 x 50g skeins of British wool dyed with local colour as well as handouts on how to repeat the process at home.
The Community Café will be open for refreshments
Undyed wool, mordants and Louise’s dried plant materials  will be available for you to buy to continue experimenting with dyeing at home
